Keeping Bab Initiative Alive – The Reality Behind the Scenes
Bab Initiative exists because of the passion and dedication of its volunteers—but passion alone doesn't pay the bills. Running a community center comes with real, unavoidable expenses:
Rent
Keeping our doors open means securing a space where everyone can gather, learn, and share.
Utilities
Electricity, water, etc.—basic needs that keep Bab running every day.
Administration
Legal fees, permits, and other behind-the-scenes costs to keep us official and operational.
Supplies & Maintenance
From chairs and pencils, to cleaning products and toilet paper—every detail matters.
So far, these expenses have been carried almost entirely by the founders, as Bab Initiative does not yet receive any grants or external financial support. We operate on a simple reality: if we don't cover these costs, Bab cannot continue to exist.

Monthly Expenses: EGP 15,000
Our First Project – More Cushions for Lojong Meditation
Our Lojong Meditation sessions have been a great success, bringing people together for moments of peace and mindfulness. But with this success comes a challenge—we need more cushions to accommodate everyone comfortably!
To double our capacity, we aim to make 15 large cushions and 10 small ones. We've already received a quotation from a small artisan in Maadi (the same talented hands that crafted our current cushions), and the total cost for this project is 2,000 EGP.
- Purpose: Support a local artisan while making meditation accessible to more people.
- Goal: Raise the 2,000 EGP by the end of May.

Bablio – Expanding Our Library!
At Bab Initiative, we believe that books open doors to new worlds, ideas, and opportunities. Our Bablio group is dedicated to making reading accessible to all, and we are proud to have over 665 books, in English, French, German, Arabic, Spanish, available for our community!
Recently, thanks to generous donations, our collection has grown significantly. But to truly make these books available, we need more storage space!
Our Goal: A Bigger & Better Library
Our current shelves were bought second-hand in 2021 for 2,000 EGP. Now, it's time to expand!
- We plan to add 10 shelves to accommodate more books.
- We found a great option at IKEA: IVAR Shelf - Pine (matching our current library)
- Total cost: 750 EGP x 10 = 7,500 EGP
- Target date: End of May
